Quick Reviews: Transcendence, Heaven is for Real, The Other Woman

Saw three movies last weekend. Not all were good and not all were bad - not one was outstanding either. Haha.

Let's rate them from worst to least worse, shall we?

Transcendence - This is easily the worst of the three. The photography is impressive but, sadly, it was the only thing good about this parable of a man who wanted to become god. The story would have been more interesting if it had a better setup (this movie has one of the most boring narrative setup this year!) and a stronger resolution to support the "grand idea" revealed halfway through the movie. And the part that went to Johnny Depp should have gone to another actor.

Rating: 2 Stars

Heaven is for Real - This is a better film than Transcendence. It's a moving story of a family whose youngest child saw a vision of heaven and how that incident tested their faith in God and their concept of what heaven is supposed to be like. The material is a softie but it has enough likeable moments to elevate it from its TV movie-of-the-week trappings.

Rating: 3 and 1/2 Stars

The Other Woman - This one is hilarious. Leslie Mann and Cameron Diaz make a perfect comedy pair. The story is not so fresh but the laughs are. It is predictable but it's what the genre calls. In terms of entertainment, this one delivered the goods.

Rating: 3 and 1/2 Stars
