Film Review: "X-Men: DOFP"

The new X-Men movie is a reboot, a reset, a re-imagining, a complete revamp. And a return to the finest superhero narratives of all time!

"X-Men: Days of Future Past" is the direct sequel to X2. If not for the powerhouse cast that the X-Men series introduced in the films that came between X2 and this, I would be inclined to completely discard them but Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine are the best things that ever happened to this franchise --- and Bryan Singer, of course!

This is the best film in the series and the best superhero movie since "The Avengers"!

The film won me completely over with two set pieces. The first one came early on and involved a newly introduced mutant who can move faster than sound. It was fine art in a genre piece. Amazing!

The second one was completely simple but finally healed the loss i felt when [Spoiler alert!] Jean Grey had to die when she sacrificed herself in X2. She is alive --- very much alive!!!

This is an excellent film. No massive obligatory cast/character reunion scenes but you are comforted with the thought that somehow Bryan Singer pulled off the promise of "X-2" --- the X-Men are united once again! Well, except for that after-credits scene that introduced another villain who i need help in identifying.

Rating: 5 Stars.
